The Complex Phenomenon of Simple

The title reveals the concept. A simple circle form, a plain doily…sculpture or craft? Mounted to or supported by a basic square form normally used to exhibit paintings. The square poplar support is structurally assisted with plywood triangle forms that create a negative space octagon. A support changes identity. A support for a form changes that form. The doily is pushed several inches from the wall so that it etches a ditto of itself in shadow on the wall. Is the fiberglass “the real” or simply a tool to create “the real shadow. Nothing is as simple as it appears on the surface. Nothing stands alone. Identity is not clear. Which expression is the truth of this thing. What is it really? Simple is never simple.
